Gas Leak Fire Claims Housewife’s Life, Two Children Critically Injured

Narsingdi, August 5, 2025: A tragic fire caused by a gas pipeline leak in Madhabdi, Narsingdi, has resulted in the death of a housewife and left her two children severely injured. The incident occurred at their home in Algi village, Nuralapur Union, on Monday night (August 4) around 11 PM. The deceased’s body is at the Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital morgue, while her two children are undergoing treatment at the same hospital, police confirmed

The deceased, Aklima Begum (30), was the wife of MR Emran. Their two children, Siam (12) and Samia (14), were critically injured in the blaze. Aklima and Emran worked as laborers at a local textile mill.

Local residents allege that an illegal gas connection syndicate has been operating in the area for a long time. Despite multiple written complaints to the Titas Gas authorities, no action was taken to address the issue. Madhabdi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Nazrul Islam told Kalbela, “The body of the deceased, Aklima, is still at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. We are gathering detailed information. Legal action will be taken based on the family’s complaint.
In a related incident, on Monday morning, a fire broke out in Narsingdi Sadar due to a burst Titas Gas pipeline, prompting authorities to suspend gas supply in the town and surrounding areas. This caused severe disruptions for around 4,500 consumers, including industrial establishments, throughout the day.
