Government Vigilant but No Security Concerns for August 5, Says Home Adviser

Dhaka, August 4, 2025: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that the government is maintaining a vigilant stance regarding August 5, but there are no security concerns. He made these remarks during a press briefing on Monday afternoon following a core committee meeting on law and order at the Home Ministry’s conference room in the Bangladesh Secretariat. The information was shared in a press release issued by Faysal Hasan, Public Relations Officer (Director) of the Home Ministry.

According to the press release, Adviser Chowdhury emphasized that there is no cause for panic regarding August 5. “With the grace of Almighty Allah and the cooperation of all, all events and programs will be held peacefully,” he said, adding that the government is taking necessary precautions. He noted that the government must remain vigilant on all matters, which is why various meetings are organized, and cooperation from all relevant parties is sought. When asked about special operations by law enforcement agencies, Adviser Chowdhury responded, “Special operations are ongoing across the country and will continue until the elections. Efforts to recover lost or unrecovered weapons are continuing with full commitment.” Addressing juvenile crime in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area, he highlighted the need for increased social awareness alongside family efforts to curb such tendencies. On the issue of mob violence, he stated, “Mob violence has decreased compared to before and will continue to decline gradually. No leniency is being shown in cases of mob violence.”
