Housewife Found Hanging in Rented Apartment in Joypurha

Police recovered the body of Farjana Akter (28), a housewife, found hanging in a rented apartment in Joypurhat town. The incident occurred late Friday night, around 11 PM, in the Shabujnagar neighborhood.

Farjana Akter, wife of Jiban Hossain from Post Officepara in Panchbibi Pourashava, was the daughter of Zahidul Islam from Sahebpara in Joypurhat town.

According to police and local sources, Farjana’s first husband had passed away, leaving her with a daughter. She later married Jiban Hossain, becoming his second wife. Farjana’s family did not approve of their second marriage. About six months ago, Farjana and Jiban rented an apartment in Shabujnagar, where Jiban did not stay regularly but visited occasionally. The couple had been experiencing marital discord recently. On Friday night, Farjana’s body was found hanging with a scarf wrapped around her neck in the apartment. She was dressed neatly in a saree. The police were informed, and they recovered the body, sending it to Joypurhat General Hospital for an autopsy.

The landlord, Abu Hashem, stated, “Farjana and her husband Jiban rented my apartment about six months ago. They lived on the second floor, while my family resides on the third floor. On Thursday night around 10 PM, Jiban knocked on their apartment door and called out to Farjana but received no response. My son also tried calling out but got no answer. On Friday evening, Jiban returned and knocked again. When there was still no response, he climbed a nearby tree and saw Farjana hanging through the window.”

Farjana’s younger brother, Mezbah Nabil, said, “My sister’s first husband passed away. Eight months ago, she remarried and lived in that rented apartment.”

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Joypurhat Police Station, Tambirul Islam, confirmed that the body was sent to Joypurhat General Hospital for an autopsy. “The exact cause of her death will be determined after the autopsy report,” he added.
