In a press briefing in Tehran, Pezeshkian stated, “Through Pakistan, we can connect to the China-Pakistan Silk Road, which could extend through Iran to Europe.” He emphasized that the trade relationship between Iran and Pakistan is currently strong, with plans to elevate bilateral trade to $10 billion.
Pezeshkian underscored the deep ties between the two nations, spanning economy, science, culture, industry, and border cooperation, while also noting the ideological bonds between their peoples. Addressing regional challenges, he praised Pakistan’s condemnation of recent aggressions by Israel and the United States against Iran and appreciated the Pakistani Parliament’s stance in support of Iran’s territorial integrity. He stressed the importance of unity among Muslim nations, accusing external forces of attempting to sow division.
Upon arrival at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, Pezeshkian was warmly welcomed with children presenting flowers. He was received by Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The airport was adorned with flags of Pakistan and Iran to mark the occasion. Accompanying Pezeshkian were Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials.
This marks Pezeshkian’s first official visit to Pakistan as president. During the visit, he is scheduled to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Sharif and his cabinet. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry stated that the visit would further strengthen the brotherly ties between the two nations.
