Dhaka, August 31, 2025: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has advocated for banning the Jatiya Party, likening it to the prohibition imposed on the Awami League. The party believes that the Jatiya Party, like the "fascist" Awami League, should face similar restrictions on its activities.
This statement was made by Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP, Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher, following a meeting with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Sunday (August 31) at the Jamuna State Guest House.
Dr. Taher said, “We have clearly stated that just as the fascist Awami League’s activities have been banned, the Jatiya Party could also be banned in a similar manner.”
Commenting on a recent attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haq Nur, Dr. Taher described it as “heinous and deeply unfortunate.” He emphasized that the incident involves a deeper conspiracy and urged the Chief Adviser to identify and take strict action against those responsible.
He further stated, “The Jatiya Party acted as an ally of the Awami League. Therefore, we have informed the Chief Adviser that a similar decision could be taken regarding the Jatiya Party.”
Earlier in the day, a four-member delegation from Jamaat-e-Islami, led by Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher, met with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus at around 4:15 PM to discuss the 13th parliamentary election and the current political situation. The delegation included Jamaat’s Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, and Dr. Hamidur Rahman Azad.
