July Uprising Inspired a Vision for a Discrimination-Free, Corruption-Free Bangladesh, Says Chief Adviser
Dhaka, August 4, 2025: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus stated that the July mass uprising was a collective outburst against 16 years of authoritarian misrule, with the primary goal of establishing a discrimination-free, corruption-free, and autocracy-free state system. He emphasized restoring democracy and returning state power to the people. These remarks were made in a message delivered on Monday to mark the first anniversary of the July uprising, distributed to the media through his press wing.Professor Yunus said, “Since assuming responsibility, the interim government has undertaken extensive reforms across all sectors of the state apparatus to achieve these goals. The trial process for the July massacre is progressing rapidly, and initiatives have been taken to preserve the memory of the July martyrs and rehabilitate the injured July warriors.”
Regarding elections, he noted, “Discussions with political parties and stakeholders are ongoing to accelerate our democratic journey, reform the political and electoral systems, and implement necessary changes. The interim government is committed to restoring all state powers to the people through a peaceful, free, and fair election, alongside a sustainable political solution.”
He added, “The July uprising has ignited new hope—a vision for a just, equitable, discrimination-free, and corruption-free Bangladesh. The opportunity for state reform brought by the sacrifices of thousands of martyrs must be protected at all costs. The fallen autocracy and its self-serving groups are still conspiring to destabilize the country. Regardless of political affiliations, we must unite to counter these conspiracies. Let us together build a Bangladesh where no autocracy can ever take root again.”
Congratulating all those involved in the July uprising, Professor Yunus said, “Today, I remember the brave youth, workers, day laborers, and professionals who embraced martyrdom while confronting fascist forces. I pay my deepest respects to all who sacrificed their lives in the uprising. I also recall with profound gratitude the July warriors who were injured, permanently disabled, or lost their eyesight. The nation remembers their contributions with reverence.”
