Toufique Islam (26), alias "Killer Babu" or "Tera Babu," a notorious criminal, succumbed to injuries sustained during a mob beating while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Saturday (August 16) in the Loharbridge area of Lalbagh, Dhaka. He passed away in the early hours of the morning while receiving treatment.
Lalbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafa Kamal Khan confirmed the incident on Sunday (August 17).
He stated, "We received the body from Dhaka Medical College Hospital through members of the Azimpur Army Camp. According to information provided by the army, they were informed of a mob beating incident in the Loharpul area after 2 a.m. yesterday. Upon arriving at the scene, they rescued Babu and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. After initial treatment, he was transferred to the army camp. However, in the early hours of the morning, he fell ill again and was rushed back to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors declared him dead around 8 a.m."
The OC further added that the deceased was known in the area as "Killer Babu" or "Tera Babu." He had 8 to 10 cases filed against him at Lalbagh Police Station, primarily related to drug offenses.
