In a tragic incident in Chattogram’s Fatikchhari, a teenager named Md. Riham Uddin Mahin (15) was beaten to death by a mob suspecting him of theft. Two other teenagers of the same age were seriously injured in the attack.

The heart-wrenching incident occurred in the early hours of Friday (August 22) in the Cheingar Bridge area of Ward No. 5, Kanchan Nagar Union, Fatikchhari Upazila. The deceased, Mahin, was the son of Md. Lokman from the Sagar Ali Talukder household in the same area. According to reports, Mahin and two other teenagers were in the Cheingar Bridge area during the early hours. A group of individuals chased them, suspecting them of theft. In fear for their lives, the three took shelter on the roof of an under-construction building. However, the attackers forcibly brought them down to the bridge, tied them with ropes, and brutally beat them. Mahin died on the spot, while the other two, Manik and Rahat, were seriously injured. Locals rescued them and admitted them to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Fatikchhari Police Station conducted an immediate operation and detained two youths named Noman and Azad. The families of the injured alleged that Manik and Rahat were only visiting relatives in the area. They claimed the attack was carried out based on mere suspicion and demanded a thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators. Fatikchhari Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nur Ahmad told Kalbela that a group of locals chased the teenagers, and when they tried to flee, they were caught and beaten, resulting in Mahin’s death. The police are investigating the reasons behind the incident. The two detained youths are currently in custody at the police station.
