In a distressing incident in Haripur, Thakurgaon, a mother, fed up with her drug-addicted son’s physical abuse and harassment, handed him over to the police. The incident took place in Dehatta village on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, around 4 PM. The accused, Anowar Hossain (30), son of Taslem Uddin from the same area, was arrested based on his mother’s complaint.
A mobile court sentenced Anowar to six months in prison for consuming drugs. Haripur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zakaria Mondal confirmed the incident to Kalbela.
Anowar Hossain, a known drug addict, regularly consumed drugs and subjected his mother and wife to physical and inhumane abuse. On the night of Tuesday, August 12, after returning home under the influence of drugs, he physically assaulted his mother and wife and vandalized household items when they refused to give him money. Unable to tolerate his behavior any longer, his mother filed a written complaint with Haripur Police Station.
Subsequently, Haripur Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Bikash Chandra Barman, through a mobile court, sentenced Anowar to imprisonment and a fine. OC Zakaria Mondal stated, “Based on his mother’s complaint, the accused was sentenced by the mobile court and handed over to the police. He was later sent to court with police escort.”
Upazila Executive Officer Bikash Chandra Barman added, “Based on the mother’s complaint, Anowar Hossain was sentenced to six months of non-labor imprisonment and a fine of 50 taka under Section 36(5) of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.”
