Palestinian Envoy Meets Chief Justice, Lauds Bangladesh’s Judicial Reforms

Dhaka, August 12, 2025 – Palestinian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yousef SY Ramadan, paid a courtesy call on Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed on Tuesday. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and discussing progress in the judicial systems of both nations.

During the meeting, the Chief Justice outlined the measures implemented over the past year to enhance Bangladesh’s judiciary, emphasizing his commitment to establishing a strong, independent, and impartial judicial system. Key initiatives include a roadmap for judicial reform, a 12-point directive to ensure transparency in judicial services, a capacity test for providing legal aid to defendants, the enactment of a law for appointing judges to higher courts through the Supreme Judicial Appointment Council, the launch of a Supreme Court helpline for litigants, and various development initiatives to strengthen lower courts.

Ambassador Ramadan congratulated the Chief Justice on completing his one-year tenure and praised the significant steps taken to advance Bangladesh’s judiciary. He also expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of the Bangladeshi people for Palestine. The Chief Justice reaffirmed Bangladesh’s continued support for the State of Palestine and its people, highlighting the shared commitment to fostering stronger ties between the two nations.
