Moroccan football star Achraf Hakimi faces serious legal trouble as French prosecutors have called for a trial over a 2023 rape allegation. The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.
On February 25, 2023, the complainant alleged that Hakimi invited her to his Paris home after connecting on Instagram, arranging transportation for her. She claims he engaged in sexual activity without her consent. The woman immediately informed a friend and reported the incident to the police the following day.
On March 3, French authorities placed Hakimi under a formal investigation, a preliminary step toward potential charges. Hakimi has consistently denied the allegations, asserting that any interaction was consensual.
Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, called the prosecution’s request “completely unjustified,” citing inconsistencies in the complainant’s statements. “We have full confidence in the judicial system,” she added.
Conversely, the complainant’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, described the prosecution’s move as “an extraordinary relief,” stating it strengthens public trust in the justice system.
PSG has not issued an official statement but expressed support for Hakimi and confidence in the judicial process. The investigating judge is expected to make a decision in the coming weeks.
