Rohingya Youth Accused of Abducting Bengali Teenager

A 16-year-old Bengali teenager, abducted from the Halishahar area of Chattogram city, was rescued by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Chattogram Metro Unit from Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.

The rescue operation took place on Wednesday, August 27, at a house in the Musarkhola area of Palongkhali Union, Ukhiya Upazila.

According to PBI, the teenager was abducted on May 19 while heading to a coaching center in the Halishahar police station area. A Rohingya youth, Abdullah Al Mamun, allegedly posed as a Bengali to establish contact with the girl via mobile phone. Later, with the help of his accomplices, he lured her to a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya and kept her hidden by frequently changing locations. The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Mohsin Chowdhury of PBI Chattogram Metro Unit, stated that the teenager was rescued from a house in Musarkhola, Palongkhali Union, on Wednesday night. She was subsequently sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for a medical examination.
