Shamim Haider Patowari, General Secretary of a faction of the Jatiya Party, stated that yesterday, under the guise of a torchlight procession, several individuals attempted to set fire to the Jatiya Party office. During the incident, members of the army and police protected party leaders and activists from being harmed by the fire.He made these remarks during a press conference held on Saturday (August 30) afternoon at the party’s central office in Kakrail, Dhaka.
Shamim Haider Patowari further said that banning another political party cannot be part of any party’s ideals or agenda. He expressed concerns about the emergence of a new form of mob rule in the country. He noted that the current government has not yet been able to normalize the law and order situation, raising doubts about whether they can ensure a fair election.
During the press conference, Shamim Haider Patowari also expressed regret over the attack on Nurul Haq Nur, president of Gono Adhikar Parishad.
