The attack took place on Thursday night in the Chaksutrapur Haddipatti area of Bogura city. The injured officers are ASI Hasan Ali, Constable Modasser Hossain, and Constable Sajib Hossain.
The arrested individuals, all from the Chaksutrapur Haddipatti area, are Shamim Hossain (60), Israful Hossain (40), Kabir Hossain (18), Behula Begum (30), and Rubi Begum (30).
According to DB sources, the incident is linked to a theft case filed at Shajahanpur Police Station involving a journalist leader’s residence in Bogura. An accused individual, arrested in Rangpur, gave a confessional statement under Section 144, implicating Md. Roni (30) from Chaksutrapur Haddipatti in the theft. On Thursday night, a DB team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Swapan Miah, including SI Fazlul Haque, ASI Hasan Ali, ASI Golam Kibria, and several constables, conducted a raid to apprehend Roni.
DB sources further stated that after Roni’s detention, a group of 60 to 70 people, led by listed drug dealer Shapla Khatun (Roni’s wife’s elder sister) and her husband Ashik, attacked the DB team with sticks, rods, and sharp weapons. During the assault, ASI Hasan Ali was targeted with a machete by Shapla Khatun but managed to avoid serious injury. Constable Modasser Hossain sustained a severe cut below his elbow while defending himself, and Constable Sajib Hossain suffered swelling and injuries on his back from being struck with an iron rod.
Upon receiving the news, additional police forces, led by the Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle), the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station, and the DB OC, arrived at the scene and arrested five individuals.
Bogura District DB OC Iqbal Bahar stated that Shapla Khatun faces a dozen cases under the Narcotics Control Act and for obstructing government work.
