Two Killed in Mob Beating Over Cow Theft Accusations in Sirajganj

Sirajganj, August 4, 2025: Two individuals were killed in a mob beating following accusations of cow theft in Sirajganj. The incident occurred late Sunday night in the Panchthakuri area of Chhongacha Union, Sirajganj Sadar Upazila, near the Yamuna River. Two others were injured and detained by the police.

The deceased have been identified as Rasedul Islam (45), son of Rajab Mondal from Beripochtol village in Kalihati Upazila, Tangail, and Abdur Razzak (55), son of Abdul Hakim from Paikpara village in Sirajganj Sadar Upazila. The injured individuals, currently in police custody, are Faruk Molla (40) from Ranga Koria village in Tangail Sadar and Biplab Sheikh (50) from South Kandapara village in Sirajganj Sadar Upazila.

According to local residents and police, a group of five to six individuals from the char area of Kazipur Upazila was allegedly fleeing with stolen cattle on a boat. Locals, noticing suspicious activity, intercepted the boat using another vessel. Upon inspection, they found several cows tied inside the boat, which sparked outrage. The mob beat the suspects, resulting in one death at the scene. Another individual succumbed to injuries while being taken to the hospital. Rafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sirajganj Sadar River Police, confirmed the incident to on Monday morning. He stated that the bodies have been sent to Sirajganj Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital. The two injured suspects have been detained and admitted to Kazipur Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Legal proceedings are underway.
The incident highlights the growing issue of mob violence in the region, raising concerns about vigilante justice and the need for stricter law enforcement to prevent such tragedies
