UNICEF Launches Youth Platform Following Prof Yunus’ Call for Leadership Initiatives

Dhaka, August 7, 2025 – UNICEF has launched the Young People Advisory Group (YPAG) in Bangladesh to amplify youth voices and promote their active participation in shaping policies and programs impacting children and young people nationwide. The initiative was launched on Thursday in response to a call from Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, who, during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly last year, emphasized creating an environment where young people can thrive, innovate, and lead.

The YPAG, formed by alumni of UNICEF’s Young Leadership Programme and developed in collaboration with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) at the National University of Singapore, aligns with Prof Yunus’ vision of connecting youth empowerment to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Members of the platform will lead advocacy efforts at local and national levels, mentor younger participants in UNICEF’s youth initiatives, and drive alumni-led projects addressing critical child rights issues.

By fostering intergenerational collaboration and elevating young voices, the YPAG aims to ensure UNICEF remains accountable to the communities it serves while empowering a new generation of leaders to create lasting impact. The model draws inspiration from successful UNICEF initiatives in countries like Malaysia, Iraq, and Thailand, tailored to Bangladesh’s unique context, where young people are seen as both the present and future drivers of innovation, equity, and social transformation.
