In Dhaka’s Hazaribagh, a 60-year-old woman named Rowshan Ara was beaten to death late Thursday night in Kalunagar. Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the incident.
According to Hazaribagh Police Station, Rowshan Ara lived with her family in a house in the Kalunagar Beribadh-adjacent area, ward no. 5, along with her husband, Amzad Hossain.
Police reported that around 2:00 AM on Thursday, three to four assailants entered Rowshan Ara’s home and assaulted her son. When Rowshan Ara attempted to protect her son, the attackers beat her with sticks, causing severe head injuries. She was initially taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Due to her deteriorating health, she was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 4:00 AM on Friday, where the attending doctor declared her dead.
Hazaribagh Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md. Saiful Islam, told on Friday morning that Rowshan Ara and her family lived in a house built on land owned by another individual in Kalunagar. They had ongoing disputes with neighbors. On Thursday night, both parties visited the Hazaribagh Police Station to resolve the issue. However, some individuals from the opposing group later went to Kalunagar, entered Rowshan Ara’s home, and attacked her family. Five suspects have been detained so far in connection with the murder.
