Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has hailed the successful tariff negotiations with the United States as a historic diplomatic victory for Bangladesh. In a statement, he congratulated the Bangladeshi negotiation team for securing this landmark trade agreement.
On Friday (August 1), Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam shared the Chief Adviser’s immediate reaction in a post on his verified Facebook account.
In his response, Professor Yunus stated, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Bangladesh’s tariff negotiation team for successfully concluding this historic trade agreement with the United States. This is a significant diplomatic triumph for Bangladesh.”
He noted, “Reducing the tariff rate from 37 percent to 20 percent marks a historic advancement for us. By securing a 17 percent reduction beyond expectations, our negotiators have demonstrated strategic expertise and commitment to safeguarding national interests, which deserves high praise.”
The Chief Adviser further elaborated, “Since February, our representatives have skillfully navigated complex and prolonged negotiations, addressing tariff, non-tariff, and national security-related issues with utmost competence. This agreement ensures our competitive advantage, strengthens access to the vast US market, and safeguards national interests.”
He added, “This achievement proves that Bangladesh’s position in the international arena is growing stronger by the day. It not only opens doors to economic growth but also lays the foundation for long-term prosperity. Today’s success is a powerful testament to the nation’s resilience and a bold vision for a robust future economy.”
