Youth Arrested for Sharing Ex-Wife’s Objectionable Videos on Facebook

In a case involving the dissemination of objectionable photos and videos of his ex-wife on Facebook, Sanjil Mir (22) from Madan Upazila, Netrokona, was arrested by RAB-14, Mymensingh, on Monday night, August 11, 2025, in Dhaka’s Bhashantek area. A case was filed against him under the Pornography Control Act on August 1, 2025.

Sanjil Mir, son of Babul Mir, hails from Alomshri village in Nayekpur Union, Madan Upazila. According to RAB’s press release and the case FIR, the victim, a garment factory worker, lived in Chattogram, where Sanjil was a tenant in a neighboring house. He repeatedly proposed a romantic relationship, which she declined. In retaliation, Sanjil secretly recorded objectionable videos of her while she was bathing. Using the threat of leaking these videos, he coerced her into marrying him on April 7, 2025. Even after the marriage, Sanjil recorded additional compromising videos and demanded a dowry of Tk 2 lakh.

RAB’s statement further revealed that the victim, under pressure, gave Sanjil her earnings, but he continued to demand more dowry. Unable to comply, she returned to her father’s home two months ago. Sanjil then created a fake Facebook account under the name “Moyna Tetulia” and posted the objectionable videos from his own account, “S M Sanjil Mir.” On July 17, the victim’s family confronted Sanjil at his home, but they were met with threats. On July 21, the victim sent a divorce notice to Sanjil, after which he continued to spread the videos online. On August 1, the victim’s brother filed a case against him. Madan Thana’s Officer-in-Charge, Naim Mohammad Nahid Hasan, confirmed the case. RAB-14 Company Commander, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Samsuzzaman, stated on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, that preparations were underway to hand over Sanjil Mir to Madan Thana police.
