In Cumilla, a young man was beaten to death on allegations of extorting money from a business establishment. The incident occurred on Thursday (August 21) evening in the Ashoktal Bishik Industrial Area of the city.
The deceased, identified as Md. Sayem (24), was the son of Aminul Islam, a tenant in the Ashoktal area. Aminul, originally from Rangpur, earns a living by driving a rickshaw in Cumilla city.
According to a local source, Sayem and his associates frequently collected "chanda" (extortion money) from various factories in the Bishik Industrial Area.
