Awami League and Jatiya Party Must Be Permanently Banned: Sarjis Alam

Panchagarh, September 6, 2025: Stating that there is no place for crime, corruption, or murderers in Bangladesh’s politics, Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of the National Citizen’s Party (NCP) for the northern region, has demanded a permanent ban on the political activities of Awami League and Jatiya Party. He claimed that just as Awami League is stained with the blood of the people, their ally Jatiya Party is equally responsible.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday afternoon after a meeting with workers at the main office of the Coolie Workers’ Union in Panchagarh district, Sarjis Alam made these remarks.

He accused Awami League leaders, from the top to the grassroots level, of being involved in murder, terrorism, and oppression. He stated that Sheikh Hasina did not act alone; her district and local leaders implemented her directives, collectively turning Bangladesh into a fascist state. Labeling Jatiya Party as the “B-team” of Awami League, Sarjis Alam criticized their co-chairman’s recent statement about nominating “good leaders” from Awami League. He remarked, “This proves the saying, ‘thieves are cousins.’ After Awami League’s downfall, Jatiya Party is now sheltering their corrupt allies.” He further held Awami League responsible for the BDR mutiny, the Shapla Square massacre, and the deaths of thousands during the recent uprising, asserting that they cannot be forgiven for these crimes. He emphasized that those involved in mass killings must face justice at the gallows, describing it as the interim government’s primary responsibility. Issuing a warning to the interim government, Sarjis Alam said, “Your job is not just to run a routine government. The people have shed blood to ensure justice for criminals. Showing leniency toward fascists and autocrats will create a crisis of public trust.” He added that in the future Bangladesh, only those who fought against autocracy on the streets will have the right to participate in politics. Those who aided the “murderer Hasina” in establishing her autocratic rule will have no place. He firmly stated that the future of politics belongs to the fighters of the uprising, and there will be no room for criminals in Bangladesh.
