Conspiracy to Create Unrest During Upcoming Durga Puomja: He Affairs Adviser

Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, the Home Affairs Adviser, has stated that conspiracies are underway to create unrest during the upcoming Durga Puja festival of the Hindu community.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of an election training program held at Rajarbag Police Lines on Sunday (September 7), he made these remarks. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “Ahead of Durga Puja, efforts are being made to create unrest across the country. Like last year, we must remain highly vigilant this year.” Addressing police personnel, he said, “Last time, with your cooperation, Durga Puja was conducted very successfully. You deserve appreciation for that. Just like last year, Bangladesh Police is working to ensure maximum security for this year’s Durga Puja as well.” Regarding the upcoming elections, the Home Affairs Adviser stated, “Elections do not solely depend on law enforcement agencies. There are several stakeholders involved, including the public and their level of participation, political parties and how they conduct the elections, the Election Commission, the administration, and law enforcement agencies. Without everyone’s cooperation, a fair, peaceful, and festive election, as envisioned by the Chief Adviser, is not possible.” He added, “The role of law enforcement agencies will be carried out with full commitment. We have already completed training for master trainers. We hope the election scheduled for February will be held in a peaceful and festive environment. For this, everyone’s help and cooperation are needed, and there should be no hesitation in providing it.” Addressing the police, the Home Affairs Adviser said, “Forget about the elections of 2014, 2018, and 2024. I also urge you to consider whether you can reduce corruption and drug issues in society. With your cooperation, we can reduce these. Although our time is limited and we are now in the election module phase, you must keep these issues in mind alongside the election.” Highlighting the police’s capabilities, he said, “You have shown the nation that the police can conduct a fair recruitment process. This time, journalists, who often point out minor issues, could not say anything about the recruitment process. It was conducted impartially. Neither I nor anyone from our ministry recommended a single name for recruitment. Thanks to you, the recruitment process was conducted very well. I couldn’t fully address issues related to postings. Since I couldn’t, I assure you that before the election, postings will be done through a lottery system. This is my commitment, and despite obstacles, I will not listen to anyone. If I am here, it will happen through a lottery.” In a written statement, the Home Affairs Adviser emphasized that police election training is not just any training. He said, “Police election training is not merely a training program but a firm commitment to establishing and protecting democracy by eliminating long-standing undemocratic, autocratic, dictatorial, and fascist practices in the political process through a traditional, disciplined, professional, trained, well-equipped, and patriotic police force.”
