The Democratic Left Alliance has demanded the resignation of the government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, claiming it has failed in all aspects of governing the country.
On Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 10:30 AM, leaders of the alliance made this demand during a press conference held at their office in the capital. The event was chaired by Comrade Harun Chowdhury, a freedom fighter and the coordinator of the Democratic Left Alliance and president of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (ML).
During the press conference, the leaders stated that since the interim government took oath on August 8, 2024, its policies have been contrary to the aspirations of the people, posing a threat to the country’s independence and sovereignty. They cited examples such as the handing over of various projects, including the Saint Martin and Chittagong Hill Tracts humanitarian corridor and projects from Moheshkhali to Matarbari, to foreign leaseholders.
The leaders further alleged that law enforcement agencies and covert operatives are being used to disrupt the national unity formed on the streets during the united movement and to undermine the environment for elections. Referring to an unprecedented incident on September 5, they raised the question, “Who is running the government?”
In light of the situation, the Democratic Left Alliance called on all secular, progressive, and democratic political parties to unite on the streets. They also announced a sit-in program in front of the National Press Club on September 13.
