A new survey regarding the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election has been released, highlighting the popularity percentages of candidates vying for the Vice President (VP) position. The survey was published on Sunday, September 7, 2025, focusing on the VP candidates.
Conducted by the Bangladesh Public Academy and the volunteer organization ‘Besarkari,’ the survey included 240 voters, comprising 180 male and 60 female students, selected through random sampling. The results indicate that Md Abidul Islam Khan, representing the Chhatra Dal-supported panel, leads with 46% popularity. Abdul Kader follows in second place with 18% support, while independent candidate Umama Fatema holds the third position with 12%. Md Abu Shadik Kayem ranks fourth with 9% popularity. Other candidates collectively garnered 11% support, while 4% of voters remain undecided.
The DUCSU election, scheduled for September 9, 2025, marks the first such election in five years. Candidates have been actively campaigning, with Sunday being the final day for electioneering. They were seen distributing leaflets and engaging voters across campus areas like VC Chattar, Mall Chattar, and the Arts Building. Panels supported by Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, and Bangladesh Democratic Students’ Council continued their campaigns until the last moment. In response to candidates’ demands, the election commission increased the number of polling booths from 700 to 810.
The university administration announced that all entry points to Dhaka University, including Shahbag, Palashi, Doyel Chattar, Shib Bari Crossing, Fuller Road, Udayan School, and Nilkhet, will remain closed to the public from 8 PM on September 8 to 6 AM on September 10. Only students, teachers, officers, and staff with valid IDs will be allowed entry. Family members of university staff residing on campus must obtain a security pass from the Proctor’s Office for essential movement. Vehicles without university stickers or those not involved in emergency services (e.g., ambulances, doctors, law enforcement, journalists, or fire services) will be barred from entering the campus during this period.
This election sees 39,775 voters, with 471 candidates contesting for 28 central DUCSU posts and 1,035 candidates for hall union positions. The significant increase in candidates and voter enthusiasm reflects heightened interest in this election following a major political shift.[](https://bdnews24.com/campus/5762e2d207bb)
