DUCSU Election Tomorrow, 34-Hour Restrictions Imposed

The Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and Hall Parliament elections are just hours away, with voting set to begin on Tuesday (September 9, 2025) at 8:00 AM.

In preparation for Dhaka University’s 38th Central Students' Union election, restrictions on movement within the university campus began on Monday (September 8) evening. From 8:00 PM on Monday until the morning of September 10, a 34-hour restriction period will be enforced on campus entry points. During this time, only law enforcement personnel, journalists, teachers, students, and university staff will be allowed on campus. Family members of teachers and staff residing on campus may also stay, but they will require special passes to enter or exit the premises. The university administration has requested that students, teachers, and staff carry their valid ID cards during this period. All organizational activities at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) have been suspended for these 34 hours. Only vehicles with Dhaka University stickers and those involved in emergency services (ambulances, medical services, law enforcement, journalists, and fire services) will be permitted to enter the campus. No other vehicles will be allowed. **Security Measures and Police Deployment** To ensure campus security during the election, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has implemented special measures. According to DMP, 1,771 police personnel have been deployed on Monday, with the number increasing on election day. On Tuesday, 2,096 police officers will be on duty to secure the campus. In addition to regular forces, specialized teams, including SWAT and the Bomb Disposal Unit, are present. DMP Commissioner Sheikh Sajjat Ali confirmed that plainclothes DB (Detective Branch) officers are patrolling the area, and the campus is being monitored round-the-clock via CCTV. These security measures will remain in place until 6:00 PM on September 10. **Transportation Arrangements** On election day, bus services for non-residential students will remain operational. In addition to regular routes, extra bus routes and an increased number of buses have been arranged. A shuttle service will also operate within the campus to facilitate voters’ access to polling stations. The shuttle service will run from 7:45 AM to 3:50 PM on September 9, following a designated route from the Geology Department via Curzon Hall, Shahbag, TSC, Udayan Higher Secondary School, Dhaka University Teachers’ Club, ULAB School and College, Senate Building, and Physical Education Centre, looping back to the Geology Department. **Metro Station Closure** The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has announced that the TSC metro station will remain closed from 4:00 PM on Monday until the entire day on Tuesday due to the DUCSU election. **Election Details** As per the election schedule, voting will take place from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Tuesday across eight polling centers on campus. Each voter will cast a total of 41 votes: 28 for the Central Students' Union and 13 for the Hall Parliament. Out of 39,874 total voters, 18,959 are female, and 20,915 are male. A total of 471 candidates are contesting for 28 posts, with 409 male candidates and 62 female candidates. The breakdown of candidates by position is as follows: - Vice President (VP): 45 candidates - General Secretary (GS): 19 candidates - Assistant General Secretary (AGS): 25 candidates - Liberation War and Democratic Movement Secretary: 17 candidates - Common Room, Reading Room, and Cafeteria Secretary: 11 candidates - International Affairs Secretary: 14 candidates - Literature and Culture Secretary: 19 candidates - Science and Technology Secretary: 12 candidates - Research and Publication Secretary: 9 candidates - Sports Secretary: 13 candidates - Student Transport Secretary: 12 candidates - Social Welfare Secretary: 17 candidates - Health and Environment Secretary: 15 candidates - Human Rights and Law Secretary: 11 candidates - Career Development Secretary: 15 candidates
