Following the conclusion of the vote counting for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, a group of Chhatra Dal leaders met with Vice-Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan. During the meeting, a heated exchange was observed between the Chhatra Dal leaders and the VC. At one point, Ganesh Chandra Roy, president of the Dhaka University Chhatra Dal, along with several other leaders, appeared visibly agitated. Videos of the incident spread on social media, sparking widespread discussion and criticism about the Chhatra Dal leader.
Several Jamaat leaders, including Sarjis Alam, the chief coordinator of the National Conference of People’s Rights (NCPR, Northern Region), criticized Ganesh on Facebook. In response, Advocate Nipun Roy, a member of BNP’s executive committee and general secretary of Dhaka District BNP, came out in support of Ganesh.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Nipun wrote, “Ganesh Chandra Roy is courage personified. He is not a revolutionary hiding behind a lungi. Like his name, his heart is full of bravery. He is the reflection of July’s courage, the reflection of Bangladesh.”
She further wrote, “Ganesh has not committed any injustice but has protested against it. He has never backed down from opposing wrongdoing. During the authoritarian rule of Hasina, he fought on the streets, faced numerous lawsuits, endured attacks, was repeatedly imprisoned, and suffered brutal torture during remand. He never hid behind a lungi or resorted to tactics in his activism.”
Nipun added, “Ganesh Chandra Roy is not a leader who appeared out of nowhere. For the past sixteen years, he has fought fascism on the streets, emerging as a patriotic, nationalist, and dedicated soldier of Bangladesh.”
Concluding her post, she wrote, “Dear Ganesh Chandra Roy, Dhaka University will remember your defiant role for ages to come.”
