Hindutva-Driven BJP Has Turned India into a Dangerous Place for Minorities

In India, protests with placards have erupted against the rising attacks and persecution of minorities under the Hindutva-driven Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime. India has become a dangerous country for minorities, particularly Muslims, Christians, and Dalits, who face relentless attacks from activists of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), BJP, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), and other extremist organizations.

A report compiled by Indian media states that since the BJP came to power in 2014, persecution of minorities, especially Muslims, has intensified significantly. Members of these communities are subjected to threats, harassment, and indiscriminate attacks.

The report further highlights that under the BJP government, anti-Muslim and anti-Dalit sentiments have escalated, fueled by the RSS-driven Hindutva ideology that promotes Hindu supremacy. Muslims, Christians, and Dalits face systematic discrimination across all spheres of life. The report notes that Islamophobia in India has taken its most lethal form, with Hindutva leaders openly calling for genocide and the use of weapons against Muslims. Experts have warned of an impending genocide against Muslims in India. The report emphasizes that attacks on Muslims and the seizure of their properties, lands, schools, shrines, and mosques in India and the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) pose a serious challenge to the global community. It urges the United Nations and the international community to intervene to stop hate crimes against Muslims in India. Since 2014, as part of the BJP government’s political vendetta, thousands of Muslims, including scholars, political leaders, activists, clerics, and students, have been detained under draconian laws in India and Kashmir. The BJP government has misused the National Investigation Agency (NIA), police, and other institutions to perpetrate atrocities against minorities. Even the Indian military has started promoting RSS Hindutva ideology in army training schools. The rise of RSS and BJP’s Hindutva nationalism is marginalizing minority groups, pushing for India’s transformation into a Hindu state. This agenda alienates non-Hindus, particularly Muslims and Christians, aiming to convert India from a secular democratic republic into an authoritarian Hindu-supremacist state. On November 28, 2021, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, recalling the 1962 conflict with China, claimed that RSS volunteers stood firm at the border until the Indian army arrived. He urged RSS workers to join shakhas daily and recruit new members annually. Meanwhile, a new book titled *Ready, Relevant, and Resurgent* by India’s Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan has drawn criticism for aligning the Indian military with the Hindutva agenda. Analysts argue that the book promotes ideological alignment between the military, political elites, and society, undermining the armed forces’ traditional neutrality. Critics note that it emphasizes "ancient Indian wisdom" while portraying Islamic ideology as terrorism, echoing the RSS-BJP narrative.
Due to its communal, hate-driven policies, the BJP has lost political ground across India. However, in Kashmir, the party relies on military force, draconian laws, curfews, and constitutional violations, including the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A and the imposition of over 800 illegal laws without legislative approval.
