National Consensus Commission Discusses July National Charter with Experts

The National Consensus Commission held an extensive discussion with experts to finalize the July National Charter 2025 and explore methods and approaches for its implementation.

On Sunday (September 7), a meeting lasting over three hours was held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital to discuss these matters.

The experts in attendance included retired Supreme Court Appellate Division Justice M.A. Matin, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Dhaka University Mohammad Ekramul Haque, Senior Advocate of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Dr. Sharif Bhuiyan, and Barrister Imran Siddique. During the meeting, the experts reviewed the draft of the charter and provided insights on constitutional, legal, and political aspects regarding its potential implementation. Representing the commission were Co-Chair Professor Ali Riaz, members Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Safar Raj Hossain, and Dr. Md. Ayub Mia. Additionally, Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser involved in the national consensus process, participated in the meeting. Notably, the commission has already held multiple informal meetings with political parties to discuss the charter. As part of this ongoing process, opinions on implementation methods were collected from political parties and alliances. These opinions were also reviewed during today’s meeting.
