Dhaka University (DU) has implemented stringent security measures at its entry gates due to the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Hall Parliament elections, creating a robust security cordon. Entry to the campus is strictly prohibited without a university ID card.
The voting process for the DUCSU and Hall Parliament elections began on Tuesday (September 9) morning in a festive atmosphere. Law enforcement agencies are on high alert to ensure the elections proceed smoothly. The university’s entry points are under tight security, with access restricted to those who can verify their identity with a university ID card.
At the Nilkhet gate adjacent to Dhaka University, a barricade has been set up. Police personnel are stationed on one side of the barricade, while university students and additional law enforcement members are positioned on the other. Students are allowed entry only after presenting their university ID cards.
Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were also observed near the police station opposite the university’s entrance.
Voting commenced at 8:00 AM across eight centers with 810 booths and will continue until 4:00 PM. The festive atmosphere among students is evident as the DUCSU election takes place after a long hiatus.
The total number of voters is 39,874, with 20,915 male voters and 18,959 female voters. To ensure a secure and transparent election, the university administration has implemented a three-tier security system at each voting center. Additionally, LED screens have been installed to display results directly, ensuring transparency in vote counting.
Since Monday night, a significant number of police and other law enforcement personnel, along with members of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) and student volunteers responsible for maintaining campus discipline, have been deployed at the entry points to ensure the smooth conduct of the election.
