Threat Allegations Against Bulbul, Tamim Speaks Out

Recently, Aminul Islam Bulbul and Tamim Iqbal attended the voting for the COAB election. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election buzz has begun. Several individuals have already announced their candidacy. Among them is the current BCB president, Aminul Islam Bulbul. It is speculated that he might face a contest for the presidency from former captain Tamim Iqbal. Amidst this, Bulbul has alleged receiving threats from an unknown caller.

Last Thursday, the BCB president revealed that he received a threat urging him not to participate in the upcoming election. On the same day, a letter signed by BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury was sent to the Home Ministry requesting security and armed protection, though it did not mention the threat explicitly. Later, Bulbul disclosed the threat on a private television channel. This sparked discussions about whether Tamim was involved in the incident in any way.

Addressing the issue on a recent TV talk show, former national team captain Tamim Iqbal responded with a smile, saying, “I haven’t followed this matter closely. If this has indeed happened, it’s very unfortunate. If someone thinks otherwise, I’m a cricketer, not a terrorist. I believe when Bulbul Bhai makes a comment, he should be clear. Sometimes his statements leave questions unanswered.” Tamim advised Bulbul to disclose the phone number and seek legal recourse instead of being vague. “If such a call was received, there must be a number. Our country has enough intelligence to trace who made the call. Instead of hiding, if he’s concerned about his safety, he should mention the number in the letter he sent. If nothing like this happened, he should clarify that as well,” Tamim said. He further added, “Leaving things ambiguous creates doubts. I can’t say if something like this happened or not. Like you all, I’ve only seen reports. I think the term ‘players’ is very important. If this actually happened, there’s the option to file a GD (General Diary). The number can be traced. If it didn’t happen, he should provide an explanation.” Previously, Bulbul did not explicitly call the unknown call a “threat.” He mentioned that he was asked to withdraw from the election, saying, “They called and asked, ‘Can’t you skip the election?’ It would be better if I didn’t, right? Security is a big issue. I’m scared. The call came 2-3 days ago.”
Notably, the BCB board election is scheduled for October 4. Following the announcement, surprises have continued to emerge. Tamim, a former captain, has expressed his intention to run for a director position and possibly the presidency. Later, former BCB president Faruque Ahmed and others also announced their candidacy for director positions. Amid these developments, Bulbul’s allegations surfaced.
