Harare, September 6, 2025: Despite Sri Lanka's long-standing dominance at Harare Sports Club, Zimbabwe finally broke their streak in a stunning turnaround. After losing both matches in the ODI series and the first T20I, Zimbabwe delivered a commanding performance in the second T20I to keep the series alive. Bowling first, they bundled out Sri Lanka for a mere 80 runs in 17.4 overs and chased the target in 14.2 overs, securing a 5-wicket victory with 34 balls to spare, leveling the three-match T20I series.
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza led from the front, earning the Player of the Match award for his remarkable 3 wickets for 11 runs. The hosts’ bowling attack was relentless, with Blessing Muzarabani striking early, dismissing Sri Lanka’s first batsman at a team score of 4 runs. Muzarabani (2 wickets) and Brad Evans (3 wickets) complemented Raza’s spin, restricting Sri Lanka to their second-lowest T20I total, only better than their 77 against South Africa in 2024. Kamil Mishara top-scored for Sri Lanka with 20 runs.
Chasing the modest target, Zimbabwe faced early hiccups despite a 20-run opening stand by Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani. After Marumani’s dismissal for 17, Zimbabwe lost two more wickets quickly, slumping to 27/3. However, Ryan Burl (20* off 22) and Tashinga Musekiwa (21 off 14) played crucial unbeaten knocks to guide their team to victory. Dushmantha Chameera was Sri Lanka’s best bowler, claiming 3 wickets.
This victory sets the stage for an exciting series decider in the third T20I, scheduled for tomorrow at the same venue.
