Dhaka: Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) and Kunming Medical University of China have inaugurated a new era of healthcare collaboration by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
This initiative sees China investing $138.20 million in Bangladesh's healthcare sector, focusing on the expansion of advanced medical technologies.
Held at BMU's Super Specialized Hospital auditorium on Monday, the Yunnan-Bangladesh Education and Healthcare Program highlighted long-term collaborative opportunities. The event was graced by the presence of Professor Jia Xueshan, President of Kunming Medical University, as the chief guest, and was presided over by BMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam.
The MoU opens doors to advanced medical practices like robotic surgeries and liver and bone marrow transplants in Bangladesh. Additionally, opportunities for joint research, faculty-student exchange programs, scholarships, and technology transfer will emerge as key outcomes of this collaboration.
Speakers emphasized that this partnership will usher significant progress in public health, research, and the modernization of Bangladesh’s healthcare infrastructure, leveraging China’s vast experience in tackling public health challenges.
