26 Civilians Killed in Kashmir Tourist Attack

International: A horrifying militant attack in the Anantnag district of Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has claimed the lives of 26 civilian tourists. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday (April 22), is considered one of the most violent incidents targeting civilians in recent years.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attack took place in the Baisaran meadow, a scenic yet remote location accessible only on foot or horseback. A group of 40 tourists had arrived at the site when armed assailants emerged from the tree-covered hills and indiscriminately opened fire.

While local vendors fled to safety, the tourists were left vulnerable in the crossfire. Among the deceased was a businessman from Karnataka, Munjunath Rao (47), who had been traveling with his wife Pallavi and son Abhijay. His wife, devastated by the attack, recounted witnessing her husband's murder.

Authorities have requested helicopters for emergency evacuations of the injured. In response to the crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Home Minister Amit Shah, who is traveling to Srinagar for an urgent security briefing.

The identity of the attackers remains unconfirmed, but the incident marks one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in Kashmir in recent years.
