Dhaka: Several companies have illegally imported gas worth approximately fifty crores, disregarding regulations.
This gas, used in air conditioners and refrigerators, poses a significant risk of accidents if not inspected by the Explosives and Environment Departments.
Tarfadar Sohel Rahman, Secretary of the Export Development Bureau, lodged a written complaint with the Director General of the Environment Department.
The complaint highlights that some companies imported gas without licenses and are awaiting clearance at Chattogram port. According to NBR data, out of 430 applications, 308 companies were granted licenses.
However, some companies imported far more gas than approved.
