Khulna: A significant student movement has erupted in Khulna, demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Muhammad Masud.
As part of the protest, Khulna University students expressed solidarity with KUET students and blocked a key intersection in the city.
On Wednesday (April 23), from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM, protesters staged a blockade at Zero Point, halting traffic on Khulna-Satkhira Highway and Khulna-Mongla Highway. Due to the severe heat, many commuters suffered. Later, upon police request and considering public inconvenience, the students withdrew the blockade and held a rally on the side of the road.
Earlier in the day, Khulna University students boycotted classes in solidarity with KUET students’ single-point demand, resulting in a halt to academic activities in most departments.
At noon, a human chain and protest rally were organized at Shibbari Mor by various groups, including Conscious Citizens of Khulna, Red July, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and Inquilab Mancha. Speakers at the event termed KUET students’ demand reasonable and called for the Vice-Chancellor’s resignation.
