Attack at Saic College Over Denial of Event Permission, 6 Including Former Chhatra Dal Leader Arrested

Dhaka, May 25, 2025, a group of 30-40 activists, allegedly from Chhatra Dal, attacked Saic College of Medical Science and Technology in Mirpur-13, Dhaka, after being denied permission to hold an event during class hours. The attack left 11 students injured, and law enforcement detained six individuals from the scene.

According to the college’s chairman, Abu Hasnat Md. Yahiya, around 2:00 PM, Faisal Mahbub, a former convener and organizational secretary of Kafrul Thana Chhatra Dal’s Ward 4, approached the college to organize an event. The principal refused permission due to ongoing classes. An hour later, Faisal returned with 30-40 activists, who formed a mob and attacked students. Eleven students were injured and received primary medical treatment. The chairman added that the attackers verbally abused him, labeling him an Awami League collaborator. Law enforcement was informed, and they detained six individuals. Legal action against the attackers is underway.
The injured students are Md. Rifat Ahmed, Rakibul Hasan, Aynar Hossain, Tarju, Saeed Al Rahman, Raju, Ali Kadam, Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Safi, and Ratul.
Kafrul Police Station OC Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed that the army detained six individuals, identified as Faisal Mahbub, Rifat Ahmed, Shahriar Pranto, Ataur Rahman, Akash, and one unidentified person. The police will investigate if the college authorities file a case.
Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir denied any involvement, stating that Kafrul Thana Chhatra Dal has no active committee and their activists were not involved in the incident.
