Barishal, May 31, 2025 : A protest march organized by the Jatiya Party (JAPA) in Barishal was attacked, leaving seven people injured. Party activists detained and assaulted one alleged attacker. The march was held to protest vandalism and arson at the Rangpur residence of JAPA Chairman GM Quader.
The incident occurred on Saturday, May 31, 2025, around 4:30 PM on Fakir Bari Road in Barishal city. The injured include JAPA Chairman’s advisor Professor Mohsin Ul Islam Habul, Barishal Metropolitan Jatiya Party’s Joint Convener Akhtar Rahman Sapru, District Member Secretary Advocate A. Jalil, Barishal District Jubo Sanghati President Nazrul Islam Hemayet, Metropolitan General Secretary Rafiqul Islam, and Juman.
According to reports, a group of youths armed with sticks and local weapons attacked the procession shortly after it began. JAPA activists, initially caught off guard, retaliated, chased the attackers, and detained one individual, who was subjected to mob beating.
Professor Mohsin Ul Islam Habul stated, “As part of our central program, we organized the protest march. However, a group of miscreants attacked us without provocation, using sticks and local weapons. Our activists resisted and apprehended one attacker, handing him over to the police. We demand an investigation into the attacker’s identity, affiliations, and instigators. We also urge the government to take swift action to stop such acts of mob justice.”
Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman said, “A clash occurred between the two groups, and one person was admitted to the hospital. No formal complaints have been filed by either side. The individual allegedly beaten by the mob has not been arrested but is in police custody.”
