BNP Open to Awami League Members Who Did Not Harass, Says Amir Khasru

Chattogram, May 17, 2025 : Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) standing committee, has stated that Awami League members who did not obstruct or harass BNP’s activities, or indirectly supported the party, are eligible to become BNP members. However, those identified as staunch Awami League loyalists will not be allowed to join.

Speaking as the chief guest at a divisional-level membership form distribution and renewal program in Chattogram’s Kazir Dewri on Saturday (May 17), Khasru emphasized the need to expand BNP’s membership base to include a larger section of society. He urged the party to exclude socially unacceptable individuals, extortionists, and corrupt persons from the membership drive while making the process more visible.
Khasru highlighted the challenges faced by BNP over the past 15 years, noting that its leaders and activists faced false cases and were forced to go into hiding. He admitted that, as a major political party, BNP could not conduct organizational activities effectively during this period. To address this, he stressed the importance of strengthening the party’s organizational framework.
BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, also present at the event, warned that those planning to compete against BNP in the future would not succeed. He described BNP as an experienced party, asserting that no conspiracy could hinder its progress.
