Chittagong, May 19, 2025: The Bangladesh Equality Party has taken a firm stand against any attempts to transfer control of Chittagong Port and Saint Martin’s Island to foreign entities. The party considers these strategically and economically vital locations as symbols of Bangladesh’s sovereignty and national interest.
In a press conference, the spokesperson for the Bangladesh Equality Party Hanif Bangladeshi stated, “Chittagong Port is the lifeline of Bangladesh’s economy, and Saint Martin’s Island is an invaluable part of our tourism and environmental heritage. Handing them over to foreign control would mean compromising our independence and sovereignty. We will stand united with the people to resist such moves.”
The party has urged the government to formulate a transparent policy on this matter and make decisions based on public opinion. Additionally, it has called for unity among all political parties and civil society to safeguard national interests.
The Bangladesh Equality Party has already announced nationwide programs to raise awareness on this issue. They are planning to organize mass rallies in Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar in the coming week.
