Tangail, May 9, 2025: A cocktail explosion in the early hours of Friday in Tangail’s Sakhipur upazila left two brothers, Masum Parvez (50) and Manjurul Morshed (40), injured. The incident occurred around 12:30 AM on Thursday, May 8, 2025, in the Garbari Barmandulia area of Kakrazan Union.
The victims, sons of former Union Parishad member Abu Saeed from Taildhara village, are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka. The explosion has sparked panic in the local community.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mosharraf Hossain of Sakhipur Police Station and Kakrazan Union Parishad Chairman Dulal Hossain confirmed the incident. According to locals, four consecutive explosions were heard late Thursday night. Residents rushed to the scene and found Masum and Manjurul injured. They were initially taken to Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex before being transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Abu Saeed, the victims’ father, alleged that the attack stemmed from a minor dispute earlier that evening between his grandson, Sonet, and Mosharraf, the brother of Asadul from the same area. Asadul reportedly threatened Masum Parvez at his home. Later that night, as Masum and Manjurul were returning home on a motorcycle from Garbari Bazar, Asadul allegedly orchestrated the cocktail attack.
Abu Saeed added that Masum is in critical condition and admitted to the ICU. A case has been filed at Sakhipur Police Station naming three individuals and four unidentified persons as accused.
SI Mosharraf Hossain stated that the police visited the crime scene and are working to arrest the suspects.
