Shariatpur, May 9, 2025: A group of Chhatra Dal activists allegedly attacked and vandalized the Naria Police Station in Shariatpur following the seizure of motorcycles, leading to the arrest of nine individuals. The incident occurred around 10 PM on Thursday, May 8, 2025, and was confirmed by Naria Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aslam Uddin Molla on Friday afternoon.
According to police and local sources, on Wednesday night, police seized three motorcycles from the Baraipara area of Gharisar Union due to missing documentation. On Thursday night, Shahin Sheikh, a college Chhatra Dal leader and nephew of Naria Poura Jubo Dal president Nuruzzaman Sheikh, along with others, visited the police station to retrieve the motorcycles. When they failed to produce the required documents, the police refused to release the vehicles. Enraged, the group allegedly attacked the police station with bricks, damaging property and injuring a police constable, Billal Hossain. The injured officer was initially treated at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka for advanced care.
OC Aslam Uddin Molla stated that the attackers threw bricks at the station, damaging windowpanes and other infrastructure. “One of our officers was injured in the attack. We are identifying the culprits through CCTV footage and have already arrested several individuals,” he said, emphasizing that the police are committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice, regardless of their political affiliations.
A case has been filed by Sub-Inspector (SI) Al Amin, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend additional suspects involved in the incident.
