Court Sends Milton Samaddar and Wife to Jail in Attempted Murder Case

Dhaka, May 17, 2025 : A Dhaka court has ordered the imprisonment of Milton Samaddar, chairman of ‘Child and Old Age Care’ ashram, and his wife, Mithu Halder, in connection with an attempted murder case filed at Mirpur Police Station. The decision came after the couple surrendered before the court and their bail pleas were rejected.

On Saturday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Minhajur Rahman issued the order following a hearing. According to sources, the court accepted the charge sheet for the case on May 6. The previous day, Milton’s mother passed away, and his lawyer sought additional time from the court. However, the plea was denied, and the court issued arrest warrants against Milton and his wife. On Saturday, they surrendered and applied for bail, which was rejected, leading to their incarceration.
Notably, Milton Samaddar was arrested on May 1 last year by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police during a raid in the Mirpur area. He faces allegations in three cases, including forging death certificates, torturing individuals in a so-called ‘torture cell,’ and human trafficking.
Last April, multiple media reports highlighted allegations of financial fraud against Milton. Despite these controversies, Milton Samaddar has received three state awards for his humanitarian work.
