Dhaka, 27 May, 2025 : In a daring daylight robbery in Dhaka’s Mirpur, miscreants shot and injured a businessman, looting 22 lakh taka. The victim, Mohammad Mahmudul Islam (55), owner of Mahmud Money Exchange, was seriously injured and admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (May 27, 2025) around 10 AM on Abdul Baten Road, between the stadium’s swimming pool and the fire service area in Mirpur. According to police sources, Mahmudul resides with his family in Lane 4, Section 6 of Mirpur, with his ancestral home in Madarganj, Jamalpur.
Mahmudul recounted that he was heading to his money exchange office at Mirpur-10 roundabout when six assailants on two motorcycles intercepted him. They demanded money, and upon his refusal, shot him in the left side of his waist. The robbers then fled with 22 lakh taka. Local residents rushed him to a hospital, and he was later transferred to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Mirpur Model Thana’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Sajjad Rummon confirmed that police, army, and RAB personnel arrived at the scene promptly. Efforts are underway to identify the culprits through CCTV footage analysis. Relatives reported that the robbers took 22 lakh taka from the victim.
The incident has sparked fear in the area. Police are investigating and continuing operations to apprehend those involved.
