Dhaka, 27 May 2025 : Dialysis services at the National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology (NIKDU) in Dhaka have been suspended by Sandor, the service provider, due to unpaid dues. As per prior announcement, the services have been shut down since Tuesday morning (May 27, 2025), leaving patients and their families in severe distress, with anxiety and concern evident on their faces.
Kidney dialysis is an expensive treatment, and NIKDU offers it at a lower cost compared to other facilities, resulting in a high patient load. The suspension of services has exacerbated the plight of patients. On Monday (May 26), Sandor’s staff observed a three-hour work stoppage over the same issue.
According to Sandor’s employees, the government owes them approximately 7.5 crore taka. Due to non-payment, salaries have not been paid for the past three months. With Eid approaching and limited working days left, nurses and technologists are unwilling to continue work without assurances of salary payment. They stated, “With fewer working days and no guarantee of payment, it’s impossible to keep working.”
The situation has left patients in a dire state. Without swift action from the hospital authorities and relevant stakeholders, there seems to be little hope for an immediate resolution to this crisis.
