Dhaka, May 23, 2025 : The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Motijheel Division, has arrested an active member of a fraudulent syndicate involved in selling counterfeit medicines and health supplements through enticing Facebook advertisements. The operation also led to the recovery of a large quantity of fake products.
The arrested individual, identified as Md. Raju Miya (23), was apprehended during a raid conducted on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at approximately 5:00 PM in a residence located in Purbo Shewrapara under Kafrul Police Station. Items seized from his possession include 113 packets of fake "Organic Makha Powder," 95 packets of counterfeit "Natural Health Supplement," 15 plastic containers of fake "Gastric Clear," 20 fake "Diakors" medicines, 25 empty plastic containers labeled "Diakors," 40 "Gastric Clear" labels, 40 "Diakors" labels, one mobile phone, and one digital scale. The estimated market value of the seized items is approximately BDT 410,000.
According to DB-Motijheel Division sources, acting on confidential information, the police learned that a syndicate had been operating for a long time in the Kafrul area, producing and selling counterfeit products under foreign brand names, such as "Organic Makha Powder," "Natural Health Supplement," "Gastric Clear," and "Diakors" for diabetic patients, through alluring advertisements on a Facebook page. Based on this information, the DB intensified surveillance and subsequently conducted the raid, leading to Raju Miya’s arrest from his rented residence.
The DMP’s Detective Branch has stated that legal proceedings against the arrested individual are underway. Efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate are ongoing. The DMP remains committed to continuing such operations to curb fraudulent activities and protect public health.
