Dhaka, May 16, 2025: A third-year Honours student named Alvi (27) was killed in a stabbing attack by unidentified assailants in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area on Friday (May 16) around 8:00 PM. Another youth, Ashraful Islam (21), was seriously injured in the incident. Alvi was a student at Dr. Maleka College and University in Dhanmondi.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the attack took place in the Jigatola area when unknown assailants attacked Alvi and Ashraful with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene. Locals rushed the victims to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Upon arrival, doctors declared Alvi dead. Ashraful, whose condition remains critical, is undergoing treatment in the emergency ward.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhanmondi Police Station stated that an investigation has been launched. Efforts are underway to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the attack. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area to gather further evidence.
The incident has sparked tension in the locality. Alvi’s classmates and family members gathered at the hospital, expressing outrage over the brutal attack and demanding swift justice.
