Savar, May 17, 2025 : In Savar, Dhaka, a group of miscreants attacked Md. Uzzal Hossain, a photojournalist of 71 Television, for protesting against drug abuse and criminal activities. The incident occurred on Saturday (May 17) around 11:30 AM in front of a mosque in the Uttar Chapain area of Savar. The severely injured journalist was rescued and admitted to a hospital.
Uzzal Hossain, a resident of Laltak village in Uttar Chapain, has been vocal against drug abuse, extortion, and other criminal activities in the area for a long time. According to the complaint, the attackers became enraged after Uzzal protested their illicit activities on Friday. In retaliation, on Saturday morning, as he left his home to collect news, the miscreants, who were lying in wait, attacked him with local weapons.
The attackers have been identified as Ohad Haji (60), his son Saddam (35), Atonu (25), Hridoy (20), Imon (25), Minhaz (22), Antar (21), Saimon (20), Sabbir (22), Joni (20), and Musa (20).
The injured journalist stated, “Since the Awami League government, these individuals have been involved in various crimes. Even after the change in government, their misdeeds have not stopped. I only protested against their crimes, and for that, they brutally attacked me. I demand justice for this incident.”
Jewel Mia, Officer-in-Charge of Savar Model Police Station, said that upon receiving the news, police were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the situation was brought under control. Uzzal’s condition is currently stable. An investigation is underway based on the complaint, and necessary legal action will be taken against the accused.
