Members of Pakistan’s Hindu community staged a protest in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, condemning India’s recent actions, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and allegations of Pakistan’s involvement in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. The demonstration, led by Sanjay Kumar, a minority representative of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and a member of the Balochistan Provincial Assembly, saw participants carrying banners and placards with slogans targeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India’s policies.
According to a report by Pakistani newspaper Dawn, the protesters marched through Quetta’s streets, culminating in a rally outside the Quetta Press Club. Addressing the gathering, Sanjay Kumar expressed solidarity with Pakistan’s armed forces, stating, “Pakistan’s Hindu community stands firmly with the country’s military. If India dares to attack Pakistan, over one crore Hindus in Pakistan will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our soldiers.”
Other speakers, including women, criticized India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a violation of international law. They emphasized that the 1960 treaty, signed under World Bank mediation, cannot be unilaterally terminated without the consent of all parties involved. The protesters also rejected India’s claims linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack, which India cited as a reason for suspending the treaty.
The rally concluded peacefully, with participants reiterating their opposition to India’s actions and their support for Pakistan’s stance. The suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, a critical agreement governing the sharing of the Indus River’s waters, has heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, with Pakistan labeling the move as an “act of war” and a breach of international norms.
