Saudi Arabia Arrests 120 Government Officials and Employees in Corruption Crackdown

International Desk, May 30, 2025 – Saudi Arabia has intensified its fight against corruption, arresting 120 government officials and employees on charges of corruption and abuse of power. The arrests were part of a sweeping operation conducted by the Kingdom’s anti-corruption authority, Nazaha, as reported by Gulf News on Thursday, May 29.

According to the report, Nazaha interrogated 435 suspects this month, with 120 individuals detained for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices. The detainees include employees from various ministries, including Interior, Defense, Municipal and Housing, Human Resources, Transport, and Health, as well as the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority. The accusations against them range from bribery to misuse of official positions, with ongoing investigations to uncover further details.
Nazaha, formally known as the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority, reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring, exposing, and prosecuting those involved in the misuse of public office. The authority emphasized its dedication to protecting public funds and enhancing transparency in both public and private sectors.
In recent years, Saudi Arabia has ramped up efforts to combat corruption. In 2024 alone, authorities arrested 1,708 individuals, including government employees, on charges of corruption, money laundering, and influence peddling, according to local media. Additionally, during last year’s Hajj season, Nazaha conducted 9,600 operations in Mecca’s holy sites and related institutions, leading to the arrest of 155 individuals linked to corruption.
The Kingdom’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign reflects its broader commitment to fostering accountability and integrity across all levels of governance.
