Chittagong, May 7, 2025 A senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Chittagong, Palash Saha, allegedly took his own life on Wednesday following a domestic altercation involving his wife and mother. According to his elder brother, Nand Lal Saha, Palash was unable to cope with the humiliation of his wife, Susmita Saha, allegedly raising her hand against their mother, Arati Saha, and himself earlier that morning.
Nand Lal revealed that Palash’s marriage, which took place two years ago in Faridpur’s Choudhurypara, had been marred by frequent domestic disputes since the first six to seven months. Susmita reportedly created daily conflicts within the family and pressured Palash to send his mother back to their village home, a demand Palash resisted as he wished to care for both his mother and wife.
On Wednesday morning, a minor issue reportedly escalated, leading Susmita to physically assault both Arati and Nand Lal. Unable to bear the incident, Palash is believed to have taken his own life later that day. His body, found with a gunshot wound, was recovered around noon from the RAB-7 Battalion headquarters in Chittagong’s Chandgaon. A note found at the scene has prompted an investigation to confirm whether it was a suicide.
The note reportedly stated: “No one, neither my mother nor my wife, is responsible for my death. I am responsible. I couldn’t keep anyone happy. Let my wife take all the gold and live well. My two brothers should take care of our mother. Everything except the gold is for my mother. Let my sister coordinate everything.”
Palash Saha, aged 37, was a Political Science graduate from Dhaka University (2010-2011 session) and joined the police force through the 37th BCS. He previously served as a Sub-Registrar in Sandwip, Chittagong.
Senior Assistant Director of Chittagong RAB, ARM Mozaffar Hossain, stated that Palash was preparing for an operation when he entered his office with an issued firearm. Shortly after, a gunshot was heard, and RAB personnel found him with a head wound, his issued pistol on the floor, and a suicide note on the table.
Brigadier General Mohammad Taslim Uddin, Director of Chittagong Medical College Hospital, confirmed that Palash was brought to the hospital around noon and declared dead. A mark near his ear suggested possible gunshot trauma, but a post-mortem is needed for confirmation.
The incident has left authorities and Palash’s family grappling with the tragic loss as investigations continue.
